 What this is and isn't...
This blog, like our product CampaignWindow, is for folks into politics but are not necessarily webtech geeks. If you already know how Ajax works, and can wrestle Drupal to its knees, this blog isn't for you! I occasionally will write topics about what I'm doing politically, but its purpose is to just let you know what I'm doing...

How to Extract a Comma-Separated List of Emails from an Excel Spreadsheet

For those non-Excel gurus out there, I thought I'd post this handy tip. Have you ever wanted to get a list of emails separated by commas, i.e. john@yahoo.com,joe@yahoo.com,sue@yahoo.com, from an Excel spreadsheet? This comes in handy if you are wanting to import just emails using Option 2 in Add Users in Bulk in CampaignWindow but have a big mailing list file with full names, addresses, etc in an Excel file. Well, here's how you do it.

1. Open up your Excel spreadsheet and delete every column except the email column

CampaignWindow Training at the Democratic National Convention, plus I might be in your city next week!

CAMPAIGNWINDOW TRAINING IN DENVER!

Many of you may have already had contact with me as your main tech support contact for CampaignWindow. You might also already know that I'm a delegate to the Democratic National Convention! Since I'll be there already, and figured that many/some of you might also be there we thought we'd have a training early in the week! I'm still trying to work out the location (worse comes to worse we can always just have the training in my hotel room!), but if you think you might be able to do this, please email me back and I'll make sure you're on the notification list. I'm shooting for Monday early afternoon of that week at convention...

I MIGHT BE STOPPING IN YOUR TOWN ON THE WAY TO DENVER!

I am a member of the RV crew aboard The Unity Express, which is a literal voter registration drive across parts of the SE and SW on the way to Denver. We're taking a week to get to Denver, and are meandering around on our way there to see relatives and historic stops. We're also having Happy Hour stops in 3 places in Texas, so I'd love it if I could meet you!

Happy Hour stops:

Tuesday, August 19 - Dallas, TX
Wednesday, August 20 - San Antonio, TX
Thursday, August 21 - El Paso, TX.

We'd like to meet at a Democratic-friendly watering hole, so if you know of any in these places, let me know! Also if you'd like to join us when we're visiting some of the museums/places of interest, let me know. We'll be going to the National Voting Rights Musem in Selma, AL, the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, AR and the Houston Space Center, among others. See our full itinerary here: http://www.theunityexpress.com/more/index.cfm?Fuseaction=By_Day&section=more_48162

Hope to see you soon!

CampaignWindow: How to Get Rid of the Ugly Blue Border on your Images!

Just thought I'd put up a quick note as I see this happen a lot, and it's a really easy fix-- do you have images uploaded in your sidebar linked to something, but it has an ugly blue border around it? You can avoid it by giving your image a border of 0. So, to do this, when you upload an image and insert it using the content editor, in the little popup box that shows you a preview of the image there's a field called "border" and just put a 0 in it and you're good to go!

If you already have images uploaded and need to get rid of the border, do a right-click on the image in the content editor and select "image properties" -- you'll then see the same popup described above and can give the border a value of 0.

Mondays at Manuels: CampaignWindow Training With a Twist

Last month's training went well, so we're doing it again! I've booked the North Avenue Room (that's the back room to the right from the main entrance) for July 21st, 7-9PM, for us to hang out, have a beer, and peer into laptops and get some one-on-several training with me. If you'd like to come, please RSVP.

I will give a basic training, but also to allow you to ask questions and get more in depth with specific areas you'd like to know more about. I'll share tips and tricks I've used in past campaigns, etc. and I encourage others to share what they've learned.

New CampaignWindow Template Available

Just wanted to let everyone know that a new "Add Your Banner" style template has been added. It's called "Add Your Banner XV" and it's a rounded corner-style template and available in lots of colors.

Rolling out with this new template is also a new functionality we'll be phasing in with other templates soon-- choice of browser size! Now that 1024x768 monitors are more common, we've created this template in two sizes, the old 800x600 size and also in 1024x768. We'll be converting other templates to have the larger size available as well.
